Destination Assam

Assam, a state of India with total 27 numbers of districts and is located in the northeastern part of India. Assam is sharing international border with the kingdom of Bhutan in the north and to the west by Bangladesh. Assam is bounded by the state of Arunachal Pradesh to the north, to the east by the states of Nagaland and Manipur, to the south by the states of Mizoram and Tripura, and to the west by the states of Meghalaya and West Bengal. The name Assam is derived from the word asama, in English its meaning is “peerless”. The neighboring north eastern states of India like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Meghalaya were once part of Assam. The capital, formerly Shillong (now the capital of Meghalaya), was then shifted to Dispur in 1972. Guwahati is the main city of Assam and the biggest city in entire North East India. Its also been known as the Gateway of North East India. Guwahati was formerly known as Gauhati.
